Athletes from U16, U17, U19 and Junior age classes will be vying for an entry at the National Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan. The top 4 finishers will have earned entries (top 5 for the 6000m event). Masters athletes will also be racing.

Bantam/Novice athletes will have their turn to shine in September!

Details:

- A final draw is posted below.

Changes and Additions:

- Any changes (substitutions/scratches) can be made by completing the Club Name Change Form (found below) and submitting it to the Chief Official during the competition.
- Late entries will be accepted only for events with empty lanes (7 lanes or less). Complete the Club Name Change Form and submit it to the Chief Official. There is an additional fee for late entries.

Scratch Meeting:

- There will be NO scratch meeting prior to the event. See above as to how to make any changes or additions. However, there will be a brief meeting on Saturday, July 26 at 8 am to review the competition rules and any important information.

Competition Notes:

- There will be no boat weighing at the competition. That said, I expect everyone to compete fairly.
- Advancements: There are only a couple events with heats. Advancements will be top 2 + next 4 fastest times.
- Qualification for the National Championships (where applicable): Top 4 for all events except for the U17 K1/C1 6000m (top 5).
- Due to their participation at the Junior/U23 World Championships, Eric Fast (U19) and Brian Malfesi (Junior) have direct entries into their events (K1/K2/K4).

CKC Sprint Competitive Membership:

- The CKC Sprint Competitive Membership deadline is July 29. If you have an athlete that is new to your club and is planning to compete at the National Championships, they must be registered.

Athlete Illness, Injury or Other Extenuating Circumstances:

As stated on p. 33 of the 2014 Athlete Handbook:

"An athlete who is unable to participate in a selection event due to illness, injury or other extenuating circumstances may nevertheless be considered for selection by CKBC, provided that the athlete notifies CKBC in writing, with appropriate documentation, which is satisfactory to CKBC, in advance of the event in which the athlete is unable to participate. CKBC, in its sole discretion, may approve an exemption from the selection procedure."

Western Canada Summer Games Selection (Long List Squad):

BC Champs/Nationals Qualifier will also serve as selection event for the WSCG Long List Squad. Athletes nominated to the Squad will be invited to a Fall Training Camp and other CKBC events leading into the 2015 season.
- Athletes born in 2000-1996 are eligible to race at WCSG. Selection to the Long List Squad is based on performance in Men’s K1 1000m and 200m; Men’s C1 1000m and 200m; Women’s K1 500m and 200m; and Women’s C1 500m and 200m. Up to 14 males and 14 females will be nominated to the Squad (See pp. 36-37 of the 2014 Athlete Handbook)
- There will not be a separate selection race. Instead, final times for each event will be taken and athletes ranked based on their time. Points will be allocated based on ranking. Therefore, the top time in each event will receive 20 points, second fastest time will receive 18 points, third 16 points, fourth 14 points, and so forth.
- Because there are separate U16, U17 and U19 races for Men and Women’s kayak, we have scheduled all the finals for each discipline to be close to each other as possible to ensure that times can be comparable (e.g. U16 and U17 Men’s K1 1000m are a race apart).
- A U16 Women’s K1 500m event will occur. However, this race will not count towards an athlete’s total race count (will not be included in her 8 races).
