CKBC Development Camp Details:

Hi Everyone, I have some more details for the upcoming CKBC Development Training Camp. Hopefully the rain passes by earlier in the week and the weather continues to be nice!

I will have an excellent team of guest coaches coaching alongside me:

Matthew Abbott – Former C1 Athlete, A member of Team Canada for S.U.P.

Ben Muench – Former Kayak Athlete and FLCC Coach

Diane Tam – C1 Athlete and FCRCC Coach

Laurence Chin – C1 Athlete and FCRCC Coach

Brian Hammer – Former Kayak Athlete and PMPC Coach

Food:

Lunch on Thursday (Sandwiches) and a BBQ Lunch at the club on Saturday will be provided. The Team Dinner on Saturday Evening is also included. Athletes are responsible for their own snacks in-between practices as well as lunch on Friday. (A coach will be able to do a Subway run on Friday)

Arrival:

We will be having 2 trainings on Wednesday afternoon so be ready to start the training at 2:00pm. (Plan to arrive at BCKC Between 1:00 – 1:30 to allow time to setup and unload boats if needed)

Lazer Tag:

We will be playing Lazer Tag on Friday Afternoon at Planet Lazer in New Westminster. Plan to arrive at 3:00 for our 3:30 pm first game. Parents/Athletes will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from Planet Lazer (100 Braid Street, New Westminster, BC). Coaches will be participating and parents are welcome as well!

Cost: There is additional cost for this event. I am waiting to hear confirmation of the School rate of $16 for 3 games. If unable to get the school rate, the regular rate is $20 for 3 games. (I will send a confirmation before the start of camp)

Saturday March 21st

We will be doing a Mini Triathlon on Saturday at noon, followed by the BBQ lunch at the club. The event will consist of a 2-3 km Paddle, ~1km Run, and completion of a Dryland Skill in the parking lot.

The Athletes Dinner will be from 5-8pm and hosted by the Nosellas. (A five-minute drive from the lake) It will be a relaxed evening for the athletes to socialize and have fun. (Info/directions will be sent on Tuesday)

Boat Storage:

We will have limited boat storage during the camp as there are rowers visiting who are using up more of the outside storage. We will be making an effort to clear out boats from the boathouse to make room but may have to store some boats under the bleachers.

Don’t forget:

Changes of Clothes, Running Shoes, Snacks, Sunscreen, a Water Bottle…..

Also, a basic sport wristwatch with stopwatch function would be beneficial to have.

I will be sending out some final information on Tuesday. Please let me know if you need to make any special arrangements or if I have missed something.

Thanks,

Wes

Update (March 17):

There are a couple more points to cover before the start of the camp tomorrow:

1. Lazer Tag – I was able to get the School rate of $16 for 3 games of Lazer Tag. Please Bring $16 cash (Tax is included), or a Cheque Made out to “Canoe Kayak BC”. Plan to be at Planet Lazer New Westminister (Across from Braid Skytrain) by 3:00pm on Friday for our 3:30 reservation. We should be done around 5:30pm. Parents and Siblings are welcome to Join in if Space is available (currently we are the only group booked during that time) There is no water fountain at Planet Lazer so remember to bring water with you!!

2. Saturday Dinner: Dinner will be at the Nosella Residence: 1684 Springer Ave. Burnaby BC. (About a five Minute Drive from the lake) The schedule for the evening will be: Drop off between 4:30 – 5pm, Dinner around 6pm and Pick Up around 7:30.

3. Rain alternatives: We may go to the pool as an alternative to an afternoon practice if the weather is too rainy to paddle. If possible, bring a swimsuit just incase.

4. The start and end times sent out in the tentative schedule will remain the same. Please make arrangements with one of the coaches if you would like your athlete carpooled to the Nosella’s on Saturday or to Lazer Tag on Friday.

That’s all for now, I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow afternoon.
