Selection Trials

June 2, 2018, morning to early afternoon
Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion

Eligible Athletes

Ages 12-16 – must be born in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 or 2006

Must reside in the Zone 4, Fraser River Region of BC and be a member of Canoe Kayak BC.

Individuals must register themselves for Zone 4 Trials registration at www.canoekayakbc.ca no later than May 18, 2018.

There is no fee for the event.

Ineligible Athletes

Athletes who have qualified for a single final at the previous year's National Championship are ineligible to participate in a subsequent BC Summer Games. Athletes who have competed in a Western Canada Summer Games or a Canada Summer Games in Canoe Kayak are ineligible to compete at a subsequent BC Summer Games.

Boats

Paddlers may use a Mini, entry-level or racing K1 as appropriate. Clubs are responsible for providing boats for their athletes.

Men’s and Woman’s Learn to train Canoe(high kneel in clipper canoe): 100m loop (Kayak Challenge Course)

Selection Criteria

Overall Male and Female ranking lists created using highest number of points in 3 events as follows;

Top Placing in either the 2000m Canoe or 2000m Kayak events. (Athletes may enter both)
Top Placing in both the 200m Canoe and 200m Kayak Events

Learn to Train Canoe:
Athletes competing in learn to train canoe will be ranked and provided with a points score not exceeding their top Kayak result. (example: a 5th place finish (6points) in K1 200 and 3rd place finish in Learn to Train Canoe would award 6 points for learn to train Canoe

Points will be awarded; 1st 10 points, 2nd 9 points, down to 10th 1 point

In the event of a tie the best results from the 2000s will be the deciding factor for Zone 4 Trials

The Selection Committee will make the final decision based on age, development of athletes, gender and team blend to ensure that all athletes have multiple competitive opportunities at the Games. A maximum of 6 athletes per gender will be selected

Upon Selection to the Team (Athletes and Coaches)

A $225 registration fee is to be paid by each athlete participant upon making the team. This covers the cost of transportation to/from & during the Games, boat rental/use and transportation, accommodation/food while at the Games and your Zone 4 competition shirt.

Canoe Kayak BC will pay this to the BC Games Society then invoice each club at a later date.

Athletes and coaches are asked to provide the following information to the Zone 6 Rep for registration:

Name – first and last
Phone – day, night, cell
Email
Date of Birth
Home Address & Mailing Address (if different)
Role – athlete, coach, substitute, etc.
NCCP # – for coaching staff
Travel to the Games – if travel is required, a pick-up/drop-off location must be indicated for each participant
Aboriginal Ancestry
School (athletes/substitutes only) – enter the name of the school last attended 2015/2016
Shirt Size – for Zone competition shirt
