Canoe Kayak BC acknowledges this event takes place on the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa and Sinixt First Nations.

Eligible Athletes

Ages 12-16 – must be born in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 or 2006

Must reside in the Zone 1, Kootenay Region of BC and be a member of Canoe Kayak BC.

Individuals must register themselves for Zone 1 Trials registration at www.canoekayakbc.ca no later than Monday May 28, 2018.

There is no fee for the event.

Athletes may attend a second BC Summer Games to compete in Train to Train singles events ONLY if at the first Games they competed in Learn to Train singles events ONLY. Athletes may not attend more than two BC Summer Games to participate in Canoe/Kayak.

Ineligible Athletes

Athletes who have qualified for a final at the previous year's National Championship are ineligible to participate in a subsequent BC Summer Games. Athletes who have competed in a Western Canada Summer Games or a Canada Summer Games in Canoe Kayak are ineligible to compete at a subsequent BC Summer Games.

Boats

Paddlers may use a Mini, entry-level or racing K1 as appropriate. Nelson Kayak Canoe Club will provide boats.

Races

Learn to Train/Train to Train (L2T/T2T)
Each athlete must do a trial in teach of the following races;

Women's
K1/C1 200m
K1/C1 2000m

Men's
K1/C1 200m
K1/C1 2000m

Selection Criteria

All events are direct finals with points awarded based on fastest times.

Overall Male and Female ranking lists will be created using an athletes top placings both 200m and 2000m races.

The Selection Committee will make the final decision based on age, development of athletes, gender and team blend to ensure that all athletes have multiple competitive opportunities at the Games. A maximum of 6 athletes per gender will be selected.

Zone reps will ensure that all additional athletes competing are entered into the BC Games registration site as ALTERNATES as there is a potential for additional wildcards to be assigned during the week of June 11 – 18.

In the event of a tie the best results from the 2000m race will be the deciding factor for Zone 1 Trials.

Points

Points will be awarded; 1st 10 points, 2nd 9 points, down to 10th 1 point.
