Aboriginal youth paddlers are invited to compete for the Provincial Championship titles at the BC Aboriginal Provincial Canoe & Kayak Championships event. The Championships includes both canoe and kayak races: marathon canoe and sprint kayak races as featured in the North American Indigenous Games). The canoes and kayaks are provided. This event is sanctioned by CanoeKayak BC.

Please note this event will serve as a talent identification event to identify athletes born 2001 - 2006 to form a “Team BC Development Squad” to train for and pursue participation in the 2020 North American Indigenous Games held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from July 12th - 18th 2020.

Athletes competing in the Championships will have opportunity to be nominated to the “Team BC Development Squad”. Athletes on the Team BC Development Squad will work towards being named to the final Team BC roster for NAIG in spring of 2020. Details on the Team BC selection process are provided in the Team BC (Canoe/Kayak) Athlete Selection Process document which will be released via email to registrants.

Registration is open to eligible participants.
Competitors need to pre-register to secure their spot in the Championships.

ELIGIBILITY:
As this year’s Championships is a Team BC NAIG talent ID event, in order to be eligible for the Championships, athletes must be:

• born in the years 2001 through 2006
• Be of Aboriginal ancestry (First Nations, Inuit, Métis)*
• Be a resident of BC

*Proof of ancestry is required for NAIG – If a participant does not possess status/Métis card, there is a Declaration of Indigenous Ancestry Form that must be completed and submitted together with supporting documentation (e.g. letter from Band/Métis Charter community/AANDC, copy of parent’s card together with long form birth certificate of athlete that names the parent). The form is available by request at [email protected].
